The Tell-Tale Heart- An Intro to Gothic Fiction

The first step in the journey that will take us into the depths of gothic fiction.

“Then I heard a noise, and I knew it was the
sound of human terror. It was the low sound that arises from the bottom of the soul. “

To begin our journey into gothic fiction, the class has been exploring Edgar Allen Poe’s short story, The Tell-Tale Heart. They have explored two distinct elements of gothic fiction via this story: narration and setting.

The slides below formed the basis of our class discussions and students were given time to consider and then address these questions in both a written and verbal context.

They remain here for students to return to alongside a copy of The Tell-Tale Heart.
